Academic Moodle Coorperation and Opencast

Hartmut Eich, Markus Hintermayer

We want to give a short overview of the Academic Moodle Cooperation (AMC), who we are, what we are doing and why Opencast is an important issue for us.

Five Austrian universities established the AMC in 2014. The partner institutions want to ensure long-term operation, maintenance, advancement and support of Moodle and its related services. And they want to create synergies for the most efficient use of their resources.

In 2016 the cooperation was expanded to streaming-related issues, especially Opencast. For this purpose the University of Vienna and the Technical University of Vienna established a work group. We want to

intensify cooperation and knowledge exchange on Opencast,

        develop software around Opencast,

make our developments available to Opencast community in the long run.

A first example of our software developments is the so-called Capture UI, an user interface, that allows lecturers to start / stop recordings and live streams in the lecture rooms.

Hosting this year’s Opencast Community Summit is a good opportunity for us to become more visible in the community and to intensify exchange and cooperation.
